What is a Rooms for Rent listing?

A Rooms for Rent listing lets you advertise an individual room in a shared home on AffordableHousing.com. It is intended for owners, occupants, and managers who rent a room rather than an entire home.

Rooms for Rent listings are for people who have the right to rent or sublet an individual room in a shared home. This may include homeowners, tenants with permission to sublet, property managers, and shared-housing operators.

Can I rent out multiple rooms in the same home?

Yes, you can rent out multiple rooms in the same home on AffordableHousing.com. Each room must be a unique listing. To speed up this process, you can add a listing for Room 1, publish, then duplicate that listing and customize it to Room 2. That’s usually the fastest way to list multiple rooms in the same home where details like address, utilities, and home square footage are shared.

What information should I include in my room listing?

Include clear information about the room and the shared home, including the rent, availability, features, location, expected number of housemates, whether the bathroom is shared or private, and any other details renters need to decide whether the room is a good fit.

How much does it cost to list a room?

Rooms for rent listings are free, like all property listings on AffordableHousing.com.

Can I convert an existing listing into a Rooms for Rent listing?

  • Motivation: How actively the renter is searching based on their historical activity

Is the eligibility calculator available for Rooms for Rent?

No, the Section 8 eligibility calculator will not be available for Room for Rent listings. As shared-housing voucher rules vary by Housing Agency, we show the standard Affordability Calculator for these listings instead.

  • 30% or less: Affordable
