What does the “Where Kids Grow Up to Earn More” show?

Updated this week

This map shows the average income of people who grew up in each neighborhood,

specifically those born between 1978 and 1983.

  • Green areas: Kids from these neighborhoods usually earn more money as adults.

  • Red areas: Kids from these neighborhoods usually earn less money as adults.

The data comes from Harvard University’s Opportunity Atlas, which studied how neighborhoods affect children’s futures.
